Hygiene & Gear Policy
Purpose
This policy ensures a clean, safe, and respectful training environment for everyone. Each participant shares the responsibility of maintaining good hygiene and protecting their training partners.
1. Personal Hygiene
When entering the mats, you should be clean.
Hands, feet, and body must be free of dirt, odor, and sweat.
Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed short and filed smooth to prevent scratches or cuts.
Open cuts or abrasions must be covered securely with waterproof tape or bandages.
Anyone with a skin infection (ringworm, staph, herpes, impetigo, etc.) may not train until cleared by a medical professional.
If you suspect a skin issue, notify the retreat host immediately.
If you have a non-contagious skin condition, please let us know beforehand.
2. Gear & Clothing
A clean gi or rashguard set is required for every training session.
Unwashed or strongly smelling gear is not allowed.
No loose t-shirts or tank tops — only rashguards.
No loose trousers — only leggings/spats and/or sport shorts.
Zippers, metal parts, or hard buttons are not permitted on the mats – they can cause injuries.
Gis and no-gi gear must be in good condition, without rips or excessive wear.
No jewelry, watches, or piercings during training.
3. Mat Etiquette
No shoes or flip-flops on the mats.
Always wear footwear off the mats, especially in restrooms.
No food or drinks on the mats expect water bottles.
Mats are disinfected regularly, and everyone is expected to help with mat cleaning after sessions.
